Tab Notes
This exercise is all about learning the notes on the fretboard. We are starting on the lowest string E and moving upwards chromatically (one fret at a time) until we reach the 12th fret. Once we get to the 12th fret we then go up to the 12th fret of the A string (which is the octave* of the open string) and work in reverse. As we do this say each note that you are playing out loud as you play it. For enharmonic* notes say the sharps on the way up and flats on the way down. We know the names of the open strings are E,A,D,G,B,E so when we play each open string we can assign it to the corresponding note. This is how we know where we are in the musical alphabet. Continue this exercise for all the strings. You can use a metronome if you want to.

A (A# Bb) B C (C# Db) D (D# Eb) E F (F# Gb) G (G# Ab) - then we restart at A
* Enharmonic Notes - The notes in parenthesis are called enharmonic notes. That means one note with two different names for example the 4th fret on the low E string is called both a G# and an Ab.
* Octave - An octave is the same note in a higher range. For example the open E string is an E note and the 12th fret on the E string is also an E note but it is in a higher range.
