Tab is read left to right and

Tab is read left to right and bottom to top. By this I mean, the top string on your guitar, the one with the lowest pitch is your 6 string or (E), below that is your 5 string or (A) and so forth.

When playing scales it is important you get used to using all of your fingers. It will feel strange and even difficult at first but you will get used to it. Your index finger on your left hand is your (1) finger, middle is (2), ring is (3) and pinkie is (4). Use all of them.

Play the first scale "up" the neck. (Up the neck means up in tone, "down" means down in tone.) Once you have played the first scale up to the first string, you should be on either your 3rd or 4th finger on the 7th fret, once there, please the scale backwards. Don't move on to the second scale until you have memorized this one front to back. Once you have that, move on to scale two and so on.

Learn these or I will beat up your dogs.
